It was a special day for the children and the teachers of EALC Green Meadows last Friday, July 4, 2008.
The children were excited about the “Birthday party”. They talked about Clifford’s Birthday in their lessons that week. In the story, Clifford had invited his friends to come to his party. they had lots of fun together. They wanted a birthday party like him, too!
Curiously, they would ask questions about the “Birthday Party”. “Will there be games?” or “Will there be a
mascot to dance and play games?” The parents helped prepare them for the celebration by telling the children about birthdays and some practices.
The children arrived in school in red frocks and shirts with beaming smiles. Harvey, a Senior pupil, said, “O wear a red shirt because it is someone else’s birthday, and that’s what we do, isn’t it” Collin heard and said, “I am not in red then I have to change.”
They waved their little bags of cupcakes proudly as they entered their classrooms. Some brought one piece; some brought more than one, even a pack, too. They said, they would share them with their classmates.
Everyone found a seat around the long table and settled down. EAch one had a small tube of creamy milk icing or chocolate icing stick. The children swirled and swirled the stick of icing on top of their cupcakes, then they chose the sprinkles they like to decorate their masterpiece. When the teacher topped it with a small candle, some children could not wait even to sing a birthday song or light the candle but started munching and licking the icing on their “cakes”.
After eating their cupcakes, the children gathered together for some parlor games such as the trip to jerusalem, Pin the tongue on the Giraffe, and of course, the Pinata. The children were down on all fours to pick up candies and the confetti, too!
When parents came to fetch them, the children answered their queries about the party, “We enjoyed!” “It was my birthday party just like Clifford’s!”
